Web Development
What constitues a successfull website or application?
There are, naturally, a variety of levels of which to judge or interprate a successfull website or application. Under which lense do you consider successfull—design, HTML, CSS, accessibility, function, popularity?
We get better design when we understand our medium.
Jeffrey Zeldman, "Understanding Web Design"
All websites are NOT created equal. However, the most important element to consider is whether the site actually performs and performs well its intended duties. Sites don't have to be pretty to perform well, such as eBay. Sites also don't need lots of pretty graphics to be considered a great design, such as Google. Defining your goals and understanding your audience are fundemental in creating a successfull website.
And it all begins with design.
While your website may not require a large database, or the latest in visual-effects, you will benefit from a solid base on which to build from. Properly organzied and formatted code will make your site easier to maintain, receive higher placement in search engines, and more consistant across multiple browsers and platforms.
